I’m a mom learning to balance my family, faith, and writing career.

Getting to Know You…

I’m not yet home from conference (made a pitstop in Fort Worth for a couple of days) But I’m reposting this becasue I refuse to believe that NO ONE is lurking (no one commented on the original post several days ago). And really, I do want to get to know you, so if you’r reluctant to leave your REAL name, then make it up. No one will know. And as always, crazies need not respond…huh, maybe that’s why no one is commenting…

In the last couple of weeks I’ve been surprised by the number of new commenters on this blog! A hearty thank you to those who’ve come out of lurkdom because I could have sworn my readership was about five, now it’s a whopping eight!!

But seriously, most times I feel like I’m writing to the wind, which is fine with me. I am, therefore I write.

Right now I’m at the ACFW conference with limited email access, and would love to come home to a bunch of new friends. But I won’t get to know you unless you come out of lurkdom. And PULEEZ, this is not a call for all the weirdos to leave comments about alien life forms roaming the earth and such! All comments WILL be deleted!

Even if you don’t have a blog, introduce yourself. I promise, I won’t bite! Whether you’re a new friend or an old one, make your presence known by telling me:

  • Your name and age
  • Number and age range of your children
  • Why you keep coming back (what subjects you like to read about)
  • If you’re in an especially friendly mood, feel free to tell me about any new subjects that would peak your interest.
  • And if you’re feeling particularly brave, jot down one thing you usually pass over on my blog!

I look forward to reading all the comments when I come back from the conference!

lol, I did bookmark your original post to respond to, and never did. And I’m not a total lurker–I ddo occassionally comment. But to answer some of your questions, I’m 39 and I keep coming back because you encourage me that it is actually possible to be a mom who writes–and I often lose sight of that. My girls are 5 and 2.75.

    HEHE I am a crazee that’s why I didn’t answer!!!
Seriously I intended to come back to it but have spaced it out I reckon!
Not a total lurker either as I do comment on occasion but here goes anyway:

    - 37 yrs old
    * Number and age range of your children
a 5 yr old the rest are all out of the home already
    * Why you keep coming back (what subjects you like to read about)
I like your blog. I like reading about your writing etc
    * If you’re in an especially friendly mood, feel free to tell me about any new subjects that would peak your interest.
    More tips on writing?
    * And if you’re feeling particularly brave, jot down one thing you usually pass over on my blog! Can’t think of any really

  3. Beck

    Your name and age
    Beck, 35.
Number and age range of your children
    I have three kids - 8, 5 and 2.
Why you keep coming back (what subjects you like to read about)
I love reading about writing while parenting - something very close to my heart.
If you’re in an especially friendly mood, feel free to tell me about any new subjects that would peak your interest.
I would love to read about HOW to find time to write!
And if you’re feeling particularly brave, jot down one thing you usually pass over on my blog!
I don’t often comment on author interviews or posts about conferences, but I still think those are very valuable posts.

  4. Kaye Dacus

Your name and age: Kaye Dacus, 36

Number and age range of your children: none, and I plan to keep it that way!

Why you keep coming back (what subjects you like to read about): I keep coming back because I love my Gina!

Seriously, I keep coming back because I love the fellowship of other writers and like to keep up with what’s going on in addition to writing in your life.

  5. Gina

Miriam & Beck, Be encouraged that as your kids get older it DOES get easier to find time to write. I didn’t write for YEARS, then when my youngest turned two I jumped back in with both feet. I probably should have stuck my big toe in first to test the waters. So you girls are ahead of the gameby knowing where your focus should be.

Kari, I’m sure you know about my other blog writerinterrupted.com which has great posts on the craft of writing. I actually pitched a nonfiction book at conference about all I’ve learned about writing with kids. Though it’s a great idea, there’s probably not a huge market for that type of book, but I will pass along anything I learn via this blog!

Kaye, it was great meeting you in person!!! You’re awesome and have such a beautiful presence, inside and out!

Thanks everyone for responding to my plea!!!

  6. Paula

Hey girl. Really good to see you this weekend. You are so beautiful! I think that every time I see you.

    I’m 41 and have four children ages 9, 11, 14, and 16 :o)

I pop in when I can ’cause I like to hear what you have to say and because I like to keep up with YOU!

  7. Julie

Hi, my name is Julie and I’m a lurker :) I’m 27, and I don’t have any kids unless you want to count my dogs. Your blog is great!

  8. Gina

Julie, thanks for coming out. It’s great to know I have readers without kids that find something of worth in what I write/struggle with.

Paula, it was great seeing you also. My only regret is that we didn’t have more time together.

  9. Sarah

Hello! Sarah here at the tender age of 33 (I think - breastfeeding and pregnancy do terrible things to my memory!).

I have two children, a four year old and one that’s coming up to two (on Boxing Day).

I keep coming back as I enjoy your writing style and wide range of topics. I first came across your blog when I was researching home-schooling. It’s great to read of your journey with your children and I appreciate your honesty.

You are an inspiration and your children are very, very lucky to have such a wonderful mother.

  10. Gina

Sarah, thanks for coming out. I think kids in general mess of your memory. I’m so glad you find something worthy in this blog. I’ve learned so much about homeschooling and now that the kids are in school, I’m sure God has other lessons to teach me!

  11. Georgiana Daniels

If I’m crazy do I have to stop commenting? I’ll stop posting about alien life forms, unless I have something new to say! PS. Stop over and check out your pics! It was great meeting in person!

  12. Amy

I was clicking away. I have read your blogs from Tricia Goyer’s blog. I was on Cara Putnam’s blog and found yours.

I am a mom of three preteen girls-loud, sassy and very independant. I like blogs on parenting that encourage. I prefer short, sweet and blogs to the point that have a message.

    Nice to meet you.

  13. Karen

Oh, okay!! I guess I will come out of lurkdom!!! Gina, I love your blog, your writing, your ideas! I don’t know if your readers know just how real you are. Dane and I were talking about how we have never met two people who have such big hearts as you and your dh. You inspire us. I am soo-o thankful for your friendship!
Oh, and I am 41 and a stay at home, home=school mom to two boys and a girl with ages raging from 13 -3. Love the blog…wish i had more time to visit…maybe I will put that as a resolution and to wwrite on my own more! I really don’t skip anything on your blog. I would love to see an organization section because I think you are really good at that.
    xoxo, Karen
