Coming Up for Air!
Right now I’m over committed and I seem to be taking on new projects every moment. Like my willingness to be write some news articles for my kids’ school website and newly developed newsletter that I’m NOT in charge of, but I’m on the committee.
Also on the agenda for this week is teaching writing to my son’s 2nd grade class for twenty minutes two days this week, meeting with my other son’s 5th grade teacher to help with a class project, attending my daughter’s field trip on Thursday (though I might get my mom to go on that one! Speaking of mom, she’s been living in my son’s bedroom for two weeks now, with a broken arm, but that’s a story for another time.)
What else is on the agenda this week. Tomorrow is our school’s open house and when I found out it was rather disorganized I volunteered to buy snacks and be available for talking with perspective parents. And after teaching my son’s class on Friday I have to run my daughter to a birthday party and then go back and pick up my boys from school, not to mention all the usual stuff I do. It’s weeks like these I wonder if homeschooling is less work!
Okay, going back under. I still have to find some photos from several field trips so I can give them to the content editor of our school’s website. It’s a good thing I’ve got writer’s block because there’ no time to write this week!.

One of my new mottos is “just because it’s permissable doesn’t mean it’s beneficial.” I take on too much at times because I look at it as opportunity. But it’s not opportunity when I get stressed out because I can’t do all things well. So I’m trying to learn that although I’d love to do it all - I need to focus on just where God wants me so that I can do those things best.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:12 amDionna, I really need to adapt that motto, and after this week things will slow down a little! There is such a great need at my school and not many are able (or willing?) to contribute, I feel the need to do what I can. But I can’t do it if I burn out, that’s why I’m really good at delegating and recruiting!
February 5th, 2008 at 11:58 amDefinitely, ouch! Weeks like that wear me out ahead of time! I know what you mean though, it’s so hard to say no when no one else is stepping forward. I’m the education chair at our church, and it’s all I can do right now not to volunteer to direct VBS again. But I’m sticking to my guns…surely SOMEONE else will step forward, we have a ton of young energetic moms much more suited for the job than I am! I’ve put in my two years, it’s someone else’s turn. :O)
I think you are exactly right, in that homeschooling is a lot less work, in light of all the running around it takes to have kids in school. Homeschooling is challenging in other areas, for sure, but either way, good parenting encapsulates a whole job title in itself!
What writing things are you teaching the second graders? I just got done teaching a unit on creative writing to our 3-5th graders at co-op. It was a blast! I got most of my info online.
Praying for you today!
February 5th, 2008 at 12:23 pmMary, I’ll be teaching them how to write a story and using the Reading rainbow guide to hopefully get them on track to submit a book to the contest. I did it with my 1st grader last year and though it was a lot of work, he’s so proud of his finished product which I had bound at Kinkos!
February 5th, 2008 at 1:36 pmSometimes it’s hard being a mom. I know I have weeks where everything has to be done all at once. Therefore, I try to hold onto that it is only temporary. It is only temporary. This shall pass and I’ll be able to relax. It is only temporary. Like Dori in “Finding Nemo”, Just keep swimming… just keep swimming…
February 5th, 2008 at 10:43 pmWhew.. I’m exhausted just contemplating how much you have on your plate. Try not to burn out, I know, easier said than done.
P.S. I got your invitation; thanks. I will try to sign up tomorrow, although, I am not a professional/published writer. Does that matter?
