Blogger vs. WordPress and John the Baptist
It’s been a year or two since I switched my blog from blogger to WordPress. The main reason I did it was so I could schedule my posts and not be a slave to my blog. I LOVED the schedule feature, but noticed I lost a lot of followers. Still, it made my life easier until blogger upgraded their software.
Now I’m still wondering the reason for my lack of commenters and readers, though I know there’s lots of lurkers out there and I know my content has been “lacking” the last year or so, but could it possibly be because of the blogger, wordpress switch?
Is there sort of a blogger loyalty among users, or is it really all about content and how much I visit other? Which I agree has been slacking, but even when it wasn’t I still didn’t gain the followers. I’m considering switching my personal blog back to blogger, though keeping my professional one of WordPress. Anyone have thoughts or opinions? I’m not even sure it will help.
God’s been whispering something to me for a while and I’ll probably post on it later, in depth, when I figure it out, but are some people meant to be John the Baptists, loners forging the path for the “real” ministers in life? Now I’m not discounting John. He was one of the greatest prophets and pointed the way to Jesus, but he lived a solitary life. He did his thing and got out of the way for Jesus to his. But was his ministry any less meaningful? I don’t think so. Even Jesus needed to be baptized by John. It was necessary. So am I here in the blogosphere, just maybe not to the masses like some others.
Just some thoughts banging around as I’m beginning to relate to John more and more and just trying to figure out where I fit in this blogosphere and this writing world.

My StumbleUpon Page

I think that comments come and go. Some posts seem to get more than others, and some days I have more readers than others. Blog carnivals seem to draw a few new readers in, but keeping fresh and meaningful content up day after day is laborious and takes the fun out of it for me. Some days I just want to write down what is going on in my life, and frankly, my life is pretty boring! So, those readers who got snagged by some fantastic (relatively speaking) content, may get tired of coming back to find my less than glamorous life taking the stage.
I am not saying your blog is like that, I haven’t read it long enough to know, but I have seen the same thing take place over the last year or so with several blogs I used to read and comment on regularly. I guess we just need to be more consistent in leaving comments, and as in most sales type positions, keep a fresh pool of readers flowing in.
My problem is not the blogging platform, though, unless I have to have a special account to comment, which some people require when they have a WP blog. Does that help?

Hmm….good questions. I don’t think it has anything to do with Blogger vs WordPress (although I NEVER could figure out WP for myself, LOL!) I get more comments on certain posts than on others too. Funny, posts I think are insightful and hold true meaning often get less posts than silly ones. {shrugs}
July 10th, 2009 at 8:44 amI don’t think it has anything to do with WordPress. I really enjoy your blog. I’m sometimes moved to comment and other times I’m not. That doesn’t mean I’m not here reading. But, I do know how you feel. I don’t seem to attract many comments either.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:54 pmI’m new to the blogging world, so I don’t know the difference really. My husband told me that’s what writers do these days, so I started a blog. In my 20s I was attending conferences and sending off to contests, and now, in my 30s, things have changed. I’ve been too busy homeschooling 4 children, like you.
I’ve come across the Writer Interrupted blog on several other blogs, so I swung over here, and, I must admit, I was confused at first. I had to work a little bit to figure out that you had your personal blog, and then there was a community blog. Plus, when I tried to follow both or either, it was confusing. I don’t know if I was successful. So, I’ve simply added your blog to my blog list. For the non internet savvy person, all the different IDs and passwords are confusing.
As far as wordpress vs blogger? I have no idea. I chose by default–my friend uses blogger, so I do too.
July 10th, 2009 at 8:58 pmI really enjoy your blog. I’m not technical enough to know what would be causing it. I haven’t been able to comment as much lately due to do some family illnesses and other family things this summer.
