I’m a mom learning to balance my family, faith, and writing career.

Just Curious…

If you’re reading this blog I assume you’re either:

a) desperate for some reading materials

b) are a writer…interrupted

c) or love reading

d) other

If you fall under B or C, then why aren’t more of you entering my contests for free books. Maybe you’re skipping the book reviews and author interviews on my blog. Now I totally understand if you don’t have the time or desire to read them, but are you aware that I give away BOOKS on many of those posts? And I’ve just made arrangements with some book publicists to give even more away. So if you like to read or know someone who likes to read, at least skim the post to see what you have to do to enter.

Just wanted to let readers know so they won’t miss out of FREE books!

Oh, and for curiosity sake and a FREE BOOK, answer the question above and win something off my book shelf…

CONTEST CLOSED!

Congrats to : lovedandamazed

Blogging vs. Writing. Is There a Difference?

Check out this great post on the differences between blogging and writing!

It reminds me of a post I wrote on whether you’re a blogger or writer!

What are your thoughts?

Getting to Know You…

I’m not yet home from conference (made a pitstop in Fort Worth for a couple of days) But I’m reposting this becasue I refuse to believe that NO ONE is lurking (no one commented on the original post several days ago). And really, I do want to get to know you, so if you’r reluctant to leave your REAL name, then make it up. No one will know. And as always, crazies need not respond…huh, maybe that’s why no one is commenting…

In the last couple of weeks I’ve been surprised by the number of new commenters on this blog! A hearty thank you to those who’ve come out of lurkdom because I could have sworn my readership was about five, now it’s a whopping eight!!

But seriously, most times I feel like I’m writing to the wind, which is fine with me. I am, therefore I write.

Right now I’m at the ACFW conference with limited email access, and would love to come home to a bunch of new friends. But I won’t get to know you unless you come out of lurkdom. And PULEEZ, this is not a call for all the weirdos to leave comments about alien life forms roaming the earth and such! All comments WILL be deleted!

Even if you don’t have a blog, introduce yourself. I promise, I won’t bite! Whether you’re a new friend or an old one, make your presence known by telling me:

  • Your name and age
  • Number and age range of your children
  • Why you keep coming back (what subjects you like to read about)
  • If you’re in an especially friendly mood, feel free to tell me about any new subjects that would peak your interest.
  • And if you’re feeling particularly brave, jot down one thing you usually pass over on my blog!

I look forward to reading all the comments when I come back from the conference!

Sabbath Saturday/Sundays Column

I’m trying something new with my blog, so my writing can be more focused,  and I’ll have more time to work on my WIPs! So if you haven’t noticed, check the top of my side bar. You’ll find the Portrait of Blog schedule that details a little bit about what I’ll be writing on each day. Of course, I reserve the right to stray and change the course along the way, but for the most part this is what you’ll be finding.

Sabbath Saturdays and Sundays will not only be posts about faith, but thoughts about resting in general, which may include special family moments, quiet life reflections and things that soothe my soul. I hope to have enough material to fill this column, but if I don’t and it turns up empty, then pray for me. I’ll probably need it.

So the thought for today is slowing down. Unfortunately on a day like today, I can’t take my own advice. We have a super busy day filled with two recitals, soccer and baseball games. Of course we can’t do them all, and so we’ll have to slow down and choose which ones are most important.

We’re also leaving for vacation tomorrow. Can you say Disney World! Yeah, I love the place. We go every couple of years and this year is especially thrilling since my cousins moved to Orlando. Yet, the problem with me and vacations is that I don’t rest. I plan, plan, plan and then execute the plan. It works really well for Disney World, but this vacation I’m going to remember to slow down and enjoy the moment before moving on to the next scheduled event. Even though I won’t be posting much from Disney World, I will repost the trip we took two years ago!

And as Tigger would say! TTFN!

A Cry for Help!

I’m trying to streamline, downsize, condense my categories and need your help for some snappy titles that fit my blog and personality.

I’d like to try and combine some categories, so I’d be grateful for some suggestions!!!

Header Change

The weather went from 85 degrees on Monday and Tuesday to 30’s. It even snowed one day last week. But the average temperature has been in the 50s and 60s, that’s why I changed my header.

Chris has played two baseball games this week in the cold rain, it even hailed for a while last Thursday. So until the sun decides to shine on our part of the world again, I will leave the header as it is. When you see it change, you’ll know Spring has decided to return again!

I’ve just started categorizing and changing the links on all of my 300 plus posts! I really like organization, though you couldn’t always tell it from looking at my home and desks, so make it worth my while and visit my categories! Let me know what you think!

I’m tracking my progress here:

March 2006

November
December
January 2007

BTW, here’s an easier way to remember my new address http://portraitofawriter.ginaconroy.com

And I won’t be upset if you help me spread the word!:)

Busy, Busy, Busy

Between transfering the blog, setting up the new Writer…Interrupted and freezer cooking tonight, I’ve been busy. No time to post. But stay with me. There are good things to come!

Test for Windows Live Writer

This is a test for a new software I downloaded. I’m going to play around with adding graphics and links. Mary said it was easy and fast. Guess we’ll see!

So here I’m testing out the block quote thing.

Blogging Question

Has anyone had an old blog they wished to incorporate into a newer blog? I have this old anonymous neglected blog that holds some precious memories. I think I’ve copied most of them to my computer, but it’s about ready to die a blogging death, and disappear into the blogging abiss.

Anyone have ideas what I should do about those precious memories?

Website Woes

Why, oh why did I ever want to tackle a website. Learning the code for blogger was hard enough. Now I got this website, with a host and a control panel that looks Greek to me. Guess I know now why the smart ones get a website designer. But alas, I’m a poor starving (well, from not quite) writer, with no book contracts to justify paying someone to do this.

So instead of going to sleep like I should, I try and understand such things as:

MySQL: I know it’s a database of some kind and someone told me you need it to set up a blog on a website, but other than that I’m clueless.

Addon and Subdomains: I think I know what they are, but how in the world do you get then where you want them.

And how do you get stuff on your website. My name isn’t functioning yet, but I installed Wordpress and this fairly blank Wordpress page comes up, but I don’t know what to do with it!

Can I be any more ignorant than I already am? I would have thought it had to be easier than this. So if anyone can offer any bit of information, I’ll all ears.

Otherwise I just might have to get some recommendations for a website designer!

SPAM, A LOT

No, not Spamalot, the musical rendition of Monty Python’s Holy Grail movie (which I’ll be seeing in July thanks to hubby’s gift of season tickets), but a lot of Spam applications for my Webring. I’m talking over 260 spam applications that need to be deleted one by one, which means I have to open each one, delete it and then go and find the next one. Very time consuming, so I’ve decided to let it grow.

Hey, it’s gotta look good to see 260 plus people waiting in the queue line to be a member of Writer…Interrupted. The only down side is that I have to weed through the spams to get to the REAL applications. So if you’ve applied and haven’t heard from me, please send me an email with your blog title, and I’ll try and fish you out of lake spamalot!

I Got the Call!

No, not the call that says an editor is dying to buy my book, but a call from my new web host BlueHost. They welcomed me to the family, I guess, and made sure I got my email confirmation. Now that’s customer service.

So I’ve got my domain: ginaconroy.com

I’ve got my host: BlueHost

Now what do I do?????

Button Help Needed

In anticipation for the new Carnival of Christian Writers, I’ve been wanting to make a button, but my button know how is soooo limited, well actually it’s nonexistent!

So if any of our readers (or relatives or friends of readers) know how to create one and would like to help, drop me an email! I know exactly what I want, but don’t know how to do it!

My Post is Missing!

Don’t you hate it when Blogger loses your post! This has only happened to me once or twice and you’d think I’d learn by now to draft in Word, but yesterday I thought I posted without a hitch. But I can’t find my post anywhere. I guess I’ll have to rewrite it, but the emotion and energy for that particular piece isn’t in me right now, and I probably won’t get it back.I’ve been thinking of switching to Wordpress, but I’m a little concerned about how transfering my entire blog, comments and all, will work. Have you switched from one to the other? If so, please leave a comment and give me the scoop, or email me! I’d also like to know honestly what you don’t like about Wordpress!

Oh well, like my previous post stated…The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry. I better go check on the kids who are supposed to be doing their morning work. I have a feeling that they’ve gone awry!
