Writer’s guidelines

We are always looking for serious writers and column editors who want to contribute to the Writer…Interrupted blog. You don’t have to be previously published. Simply state your interest and send a link to a writing sample. If we have something available, we will let you know.

Contributers:

• Once you register (you can register on the bottom left hand side of the WI homepage) email Gina (at) Portraitwriter.gmail.com and let her know so you can have your status changed from subscriber to author.
• Please attach a picture to the email to be added to your posts. Keep in mind that this image will be resized to 83 px wide before it is added to the server and once added it will post at the bottom of each of your posts.
• Also, make sure to add your bio and website (in html for links to go through) to the “About You” int he USER section as this will post at the bottom of your post as well–make sure to add your website below your email on the right column as the image will be a direct link to your site.
• Make sure you remember your user name and password so it doesn’t cause problems when you need to log in and remember to use your real name in the name section as you want it to appear in the by line.

Once you have done this, you will be able to write posts or do whatever other job you are to do.

To post:

• Login then go to “WRITE” and write your post.
• Don’t forget to edit the timestamp prior to hit publish.
• If you need to spell check make sure the tab under “Page Content” is set to “Visual.”

• If you don’t see visual, hit save, then click on USERS in the top set of tabs, then click “Edit Profile.” At the top of your profile page you will see a check box right under Personal Options for “Use the visual editor when writing.” Click that box, then hit save, and you will then have the option of using the “visual” or “code” preferences. That is important as you will want to use visual in order to spell check, but need to use “code” in order for html code or javascript to work right in your post.

Prescheduling with Timestamp:

• To pre-schedule a post, just type the post, then edit the TIME STAMP on the RIGHT side to CST.
• It is military time, so I’d like all posts to be stamped 04:00 on the date it is to post.
• Then make sure you check the EDIT TIMESTAMP box and PUBLISH your entry. If you don’t hit publish it will not edit the timestamp.
• To check if it has been saved to post later go to the MANAGE tab and look at the SAVED POSTS. It should be there.

Adding images:

• You can add an image directly to WI by clicking upload right below the post box.
• Upload your image to the site once and you can then use and reuse it as much as you need.
• Once it is uploaded, hit browse all, find the image, and click on it.
• You can then tell the server if you want a thumbnail or the full size (anything over 565 px will break the site–make sure you use smaller size images please.)
• You can also tell it if you want to add a direct link to the image or no link.
• Once you have it all set up, click in the post box where you want the image, then click “Send to Editor” below the image. It will then place it where you want it.
• Once the image is in the post you can click on it then on the little image of a tree up above to edit the way it is situated in the post, as well as resize the image by typing in the px you want (or you can resize by clicking in the little box in the corner of the image and moving it slowly to the size you want, this will resize.
  

Bio:
Your bio can be changed in your profile under “About You”. To change the image, email a new one to Heather (at) Shamusyoung dot com.

General Guidelines: I’d like a 6 commitment from every contributor (I understand things come up, and if they do just let me know) For most that would mean 6 posts and with this new pre-scheduling, that means you could write all your posts for the next six months in a couple of sittings. The problem I’ve been running into is people leaving without leaving anything for me to post on their day. So, if you have to leave WI for a time, please have a post drafted for your first absence.

Posts are due the day before they are scheduled to post.When I go to manage the posts and see there is no draft for the next day, I have to either email a reminder to the person or scramble to fill the spot with a filler. If everyone drafts and schedules their posts ahead of time, then this won’t be an issue.

Fiction Friday and Tuesday Contributors: Please check the CRAFT button at the top of the blog for subjects already covered, and especially if you’re not sure what you want to write about.

We still need coordinators that can help lighten my work load. If we all pitch in a little then maybe a couple of us won’t have to do a lot. If you’re willing to put together the carnival, we could even have different members take a specific month and then have a special feature about you and your blog!

Writing About Faith: For those writing on FAITH, we need to be in agreement and of a like mind and spirit. You must agree to one of these statements/tenents if your post contains any faith element. If you have another statement of faith you’d like me to look over, feel free to email me. Writer…Interrupted does not try to discriminate within the Christian community, but if posts contain controversial faith issues we reserve the right to refuse publication.

Statement of Faith

I believe in the Godhead of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit as revealed in the Holy Bible. I believe that Jesus Christ is the only Son of God and my only means for the forgiveness of my sins and my salvation. My salvation is found in no one but Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is true God and true man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust, as a substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. He arose from the dead according to the Scriptures. He is now at the right hand of the Majesty on high as our great High Priest. He will come again to establish His kingdom of righteousness and peace.

The Holy Spirit is a divine Person, sent to indwell, guide, teach and empower the believer, and to convince the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. The Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were verbally inspired by God and are a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of people. They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice. Humankind, originally created in the image and likeness of God, fell through disobedience, incurring thereby both physical and spiritual death. All people are born with a sinful nature, are separated from the life of God, and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Salvation has been provided only through Jesus Christ. Those who repent and believe in Him are united with Christ through the Holy Spirit and are thereby regenerated (born again), justified, sanctified and granted the gift of eternal life as adopted children of God.

We are not trying to discriminate among the denominations in the Christian church. We understand there are differing opinions as to the gifts of the Spirit and other church doctrine. This forum is not a place to air those debates. At Writer…Interrupted we strive to point people to Jesus and help them in their Christian walk.
