Nocturnal Birds?

3:00 am. My husband rushes out of bed.

“Where are you going?” I ask.

“To take care of it!”

The “it” was a bird (a robin?) outside our window who had been chirping and calling all night long. I first heard it’s shrilling call at midnight. I didn’t know what to think. I usually heard birds in the day time, not after the sun went down.

I don’t know when I fell asleep, but I heard it again at 3:00 am. That’s when my husband got out of bed and plummeted the tree with a basketball. After several shots, the bird flew away, only to return and sing at 5:00am. I hardly got any sleep and I’m still wondering what in the world possessed that bird to sing/call all through the night.

Anyone have any ideas?
