Starting Your Day out Right
So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12 NKJV
There are times in each persons life when typical Christianity doesn’t work anymore. At those times, we tend to evaluate why we do the things we do. Why do we go to church on Sunday? Why do we sit in a circle and sing songs? Is this all there is? Is this my higher purpose? Was I created to sit in a room, sing a few melodies, and read a few passages from the Bible? Is there more?
The answer is, “Yes.” There is more. Christianity isn’t about what we say or do. If we were born in Mexico, we would be Mexican. If we were born in Africa, we would be African. If we were born in America, we would be American. And if we are born in Christ, we are Christian. Christianity is not about the different activities that we do. It really isn’t. It’s about Him: Christ.
Why are we here, then? If it’s about Jesus, why are we still here? Think about this for a second: Wouldn’t it be easier to worship God in our glorified bodies without sin getting in the way? Wouldn’t it be easier to walk in the Spirit, and abide in Christ, if we could see Jesus face to face? Yes, it would be! So, why are we here?
We are here for a purpose: to worship God in every aspect of our lives. God desires to make us holy, and holiness is nothing less than carrying out the will of God. The best way to experience holiness is by placing our hearts in the hands of Jesus, and allowing Him to take these hearts of clay to mold and fashion them in such a way that we are tools in the Master’s hand.
Is Your House in Order?
Spurgeon said, “God, save us from living in comfort while sinners are sinking into Hell.” Oswald J. Smith said, “Oh my friends, we are loaded down with countless church activities, while the real work of the church, that of evangelizing and winning souls, is almost entirely neglected.”
Why are we here? Is it to clean house or work all day, and then go to bed just to wake up to do it all over again? There is a time and place for that, but what is the real purpose for living in this time and place? We are here to worship God through obeying His word. That means we are to bring His word to the lost. There is no time to play; time is running out. We need to proclaim God’s word to this lost world. That is why we are here. Worship is tuning into Him, and dying to our own desires, so that we can carry out His desires. Worship is about exalting Jesus in every part of our everyday lives, which includes our mundane routines, as well. Worship is abiding in Him and He in you, so that others may come to know Him through your day-to-day life.
Afternoon Pick Me Up
Writing Inspiration
Jesus, Your love has no bounds. You have called us “Chosen” for Your kingdom. I am Your beloved, and You are not ashamed to call me Your own. In light of this, I give You this body of mine, from my head to my feet; I give it all to You. I give You my hands and fingers, my limbs, my eyes, my lips, my brain and my thoughts. I give you all that I am, within and without; I hand over all of me to You; for You to live in me the life that You please.
You may send this body to Iraq or lay it on a bed with cancer. You may blind these eyes of mine or send me with your message to Iran. You may send this body to Asia or send it to the hospital with pneumonia. It is Your body from this moment on. Help Yourself to it. Thank You, my Lord, as I believe You have accepted it because You said in Romans 12:1, “acceptable unto God.” Thank You for taking me. We now belong to each other.
What’s For Dinner?
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s kingdom.” Mathew 26:26
When is the last time you took the Lord out for dinner or for coffee? As silly as this sounds, it really is something that is so incredibly intimate and needed in our lives. I have had some of the best times with the Lord when I was at a restaurant, and I simply ordered a coffee for me and a coffee for the Lord, and I sat there with the Lord, as a bride sits with her husband.
Will we sit with the Lord in this fashion and commune with him in this way? There is nothing more intimate than sharing a meal alone with the Lord. To sit as if he is really there, because the reality is that the Lord is there.
So I challenge you: take the Lord out for dinner, or for a nice stroll in the park. Spend time with him as you would your spouse. You will walk away different each time when you do so, for time with the Lord is so wonderful, and every moment spent with him makes us more and more like him.
A Restful Night’s Sleep
Philippians 1:21, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
We, as Gods children, are called to die. We are called to die to our desires as we surrender to Him. How do we die? It’s called obedience. Obedience is an interesting word. It has nine letters. If you break it up into three letters each, you have obe-DIE-nce. Notice that the middle three letters in obedience is die. We need to simply choose to die and let the Lord live in us.
That is what Paul did. He said in Philippians 1:21, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” He let the Lord live in him, because he knew the Lord was devoted to him. I want to be like that. I want to live out the rest of my life on this planet in such a way that I die constantly to the Lords will, allowing him to live out his life in me.
Thank you, Lord, for loving us. We are, yet again, humbled by your grace. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
