Defiant Heart
No, not me. Though that wouldn’t be too off. But it’s Tracey Bateman’s book 1 in the Westward Hearts series.
I’m ashamed to say this is my first Tracey Bateman book, but I’m already a fan and knew I would be after meeting her in person. Though I’m not a romance lover, this book kept me interested with it’s spunky character Fannie Caldwell who wants to join the wagon train headed to Oregon to escape the store keeper she and her brother and sister were indentured to. Their debt is paid, yet they are trapped by their abuser.
Blake Tanner is taking his last wagon train out West. He wants to find a nice wife, settle down and farm the land he’s been saving up for. Yet when Fannie’s stubborn pride collides with Blake’s bullheadedness, sparks start to fly.
Tracey weaves the subplot of a half breed Indian scout and a reformed lady of the evening nicely. I look forward to their story in book number two.
I’m debating whether to depart with this one, but just in case I decide to leave a comment and I’ll draw a winner!
