Simple Obedience

On the way home from church or during morning Bible reading time, my family and I often talk about something that jumps out at us in a passage.

One time we were discussing 2 Samuel 24 where a plague had come over the Land of Israel and was stopped by the angel of the Lord at the threshing floor of Araunah. So King David was going to build an altar there. Araunah wanted to give the land to the king.

But David said, “I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” And he paid Araunah for the land.

When I heard the above lines spoken centuries ago by King David, they resonated within me about my writing. They reminded me that true worship is costly.

Writing is an act of worship.

And it costs us much. Time we can never have back to do the things we missed while writing. Tears and often years of longing. Sweat as we work hard and give all that’s within us.

Those and more are the things we lay on the altar in simple obedience and offer up to the Lord. We sacrifice to Him that which cost us something.

Rest assured it is a gift He receives.

From the day I received my first diary in the second grade, I've had a passion expressing myself through writing. Later as a journalist and novelist, I realized words, if used powerfully, have the ability to touch, stir, and reach from the depths of one soul to another. Today as a writing and health coach, I inspire others to live their extraordinary life and encourage them to share their unique stories.
