Back to school means…
Back to work for me and my three kiddos. We enjoy a short summer break-well, my kids do. I’m usually editing and rewriting. Then I spend one month writing out lesson plans.
So maybe back to school just means adding more work. 😉 But it also means thinking about goals.
The school goals I have for my children can be broken down into two categories: broad and specific. One of the broad goals I have for my children is that they graduate with a love for God and a love for learning about His world. We pursue that goal every day of every year.
I also have specific goals. One of my children needs to work on focus. Another on her temper. The other on self control. Each of those goals are further broken down into daily activities or consequences to help them learn these things.
Just like I have goals for homeschooling, I have personal writing goals as well. My broad goal is to encourage readers and show them that God is a heart healer and dream redeemer. I also want to glorify the Lord through my work.
More specific goals include researching and writing a new novel each year. I break that goal down into creating three good chapters each Saturday I write.
I believe goals are important. But what’s most vital in both setting and achieving our goals, is remembering that we make plans, but it’s the Lord who directs our steps.
When we submit to that truth instead of trying to stumble around it, our goals become more focused on making much of Him.
And making much of Him is a goal God fills and equips us to accomplish every time.
