How Will They Know?
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 NIV
Day breaks, and I roll out of bed. The house is still dark as I trudge to my son’s room to get him stirring. I trip over a light saber and land on a small truck. “Wake up and clean up!” I growl. “You were told to do this last night. I’m tired of you not listening. I hope you listen better at school.”
How will he know?
Those slippery minutes have faded away, and I rush a little girl into the car. “Hurry!” I clip. “Mommy?” she looks at me with big brown eyes. “Guess what?” “Not now. We’ve gotta get to school.” I cut her off before she can begin.
How will she know?
The light is green, but the car in front of me sits idle. I wait for all of two seconds. “Go!” I shout like they can hear me. The light turns yellow. I throw up my hands and give them a look. The light turns red, and I tap my horn with a headshake and a loud sigh.
How will they know?
By this all men will know you are my disciples…
Oh, Lord, forgive me when I fail You. Please help me to be a better example of Christ. Move me aside, and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Let me see others through Your eyes. Teach me to love more. Amen.
