How to Write Without an Office
Does the lack of privacy keep you from writing?
In a recent web class I learned more about the unique way I learn, write and study. I had to laugh but I’m in a stage of life where my natural needs in the way of office space (private, quiet, creatively decorated) aren’t an option. With five kiddo’s it is always loud, never private and rarely decorated to my eclectic interests. I have paper plate wreaths and paper airplanes decorating my space.
My office is my shower. Quiet moments only happen in the shower so I “write” and get un-stuck there. Serious. I’ve even sketched plot points in the steam that collects on the door.
Another “office” where you’ll find me in good weather is my log bench in the yard. I write with a pad of paper and a pen, the old fashioned way. The only trouble is finding the right notebook when I go to transfer it to my computer.
Here’s a picture of my space where the actual writing occurs. It’s where I am now, on my big log chair with the pinwheel quilt, next to the window, cuddled up with one of my kids. There is a grandma style TV tray holding all my essentials; laptop, coffee, cell and a rust colored shag rug at my feet.
