The 6 Month Novel
I’m interrupted constantly. How am I going to get a novel written in 6 months?
I didn’t say they had to be consecutive months. However, the goal is to help you establish a writing system. One day, as you’ve often fantasized, you will be able to stick to a schedule. We want you to have your process down before that time. Your 6 month novel may take two years while the kiddies are still in elementary school. It’s okay. This is your time to learn.
What Super G, I, and our cohorts (has anyone seen them?) will do is walk you through variations of our writing processes, from the “Hey, I’ve got and idea!” to the point where you hit “send” and slip that puppy into the hands of the world’s luckiest publisher.
I tend to be a plotter, while G tends to be a panster, so you’ll get all the variation for each step of the process. By the time we’re through, you’ll have molded your own process, taking bits of what we do here and adding a few habits of your own.
Okay? Okay! Remember, the idea isn’t to copy our methods, but glean the tidbits that fit your style.
To make it fun, Super G and I will actually work on a real plot (in front of a live studio audience…no net) as we move forward. Feel free to pick it apart.
So next week we’ll get started. Use your current WIP or start a new one. You wouldn’t be the first to work on two books at once.
