Choose your Hard

Life is hard, that’s the truth. But the good news is you get to choose your hard. We want what we don’t have, and yet we’re not willing to do what we need to do to get what we want. Becasue the work is too hard. But those who have what they want not only know how to get it, they actually do the hard work. Most of us know what to do. It’s the doing that is hard!

  • How do you get rich? Make more then you spend.
  • How do you lose weight? Burn more calories then you eat.
  • How do you heal from past hurt and trauma so you can have healthy relationships? Do the hard work to heal.

It all seems very logical and straight forward, but why do so many people with good intentions fail. Because of poor follow through. When we are in pain, we gravitate towards comfort. Even if that comfort is causing the pain. It doesn’t make sense, and it isn’t logical because we are not motivated by logic. We humans are motivated by emotion.

To achieve your goals and be free of pain, you have to embrace the pain because the payoff doesn’t come instantly like unhealthy coping mechanisms.

Embracing the pain and the hard is not easy or natural. Human beings don’t run towards the thing that causes them pain, but if you want to grow, evolve, and transform, you have to embrace the pain. You must do the hard things knowing that the payoff comes later.

Many people, most people would rather go through their entire lives, complaining about what they want, and what they don’t have and comforting themselves with unhealthy things, keeping them in a vicious cycle, instead of embracing the pain and doing the work needed to become truly free.

  • Debt is hard. So is living debt free.
  • Obesity is hard. So is a healthy life style.
  • Bad relationships are hard. So is doing the work to heal and restore.

When you chose your hard today, you are making a choice and deciding your future.

Which hard do you chose today? Before you answer that question, ask yourself “who do you really want to be three to ten years from now.” Then choose based on your future self, not the one that craves comfort now.
