Suspicious Minds by Christy Barritt
Christy Barritt’s has done it again! (Don’t miss my interview with her tomorrow!)
Back on the “crime” scene is Gabby St. Claire, funny and quirky crime scene cleaner, who has a knack for finding dead bodies and solving murders. Though back in school to become a forensic scientist, Gabby takes whatever cleaning job comes her way, including a call to check out mold under an abandoned house.
Gabby knows it’s a dog’s life, and mold isn’t the only thing she finds under the house. When Elvis aka Darnell Evans, “a down-on-his-luck impersonator whose luck just got a lot worse,” turns up dead, Gabby, the hard headed woman, can’t help snooping around like a hound dog. When Gabby stumbles upon a new hunka hunka burnin’ love crime scene cleaner in town, Chad Davis, she knows he’ll have to go or she’ll inherit the wind, instead of all the jobs in their small town.
But Chad proves to be more useful than she thought, and instead of going separate ways they team up and make a powerful crime scene cleaning team. Despite her attraction to Chad, Gabby can’t help falling in love with Riley, but will not let her self utter the words, “I want you, I need you, I love you.”
Realizing tomorrow is a long time away and running from God is futile, Gabby decides it’s now or never to reconsider her priorities. But when Elvis’s killer catches up with her in the ghetto, will the memories of her lonely life send her to the arms of God and leave her crying in the chapel? Or will Gabby’s heart continue to ask, “are you lonesome tonight?”
Okay, I confess while writing this review I was compelled to listen to Elvis music and I found myself mellowing to the music, and yes, got carried away with the Elvisisms, so now’s you’re chance to share in the experience. Go back and reread my review and see if you can pick out the Elvis song titles or expressions. Can you pick find all 14? Send an email to portraitwriter (at) gmail (dot) com and I Christy will send the book to the person who finds the most Elvis songs!
“Suspicious Minds plays havoc on the nerves and the funny bone as crime-scene cleaner Gaby St. Claire wisecracks her way between dead bodies and flying bullets. A treat not to be missed!”
–Jill Elizabeth Nelson, Author, To Catch a Thief series
but the King is definitely dead . . . again.
Buzz about Suspicious Minds . . . “Crime scene cleaning is dirty job, but Christy Barritt has made it hilarious. Amateur sleuth Gabby St. Claire is back, and in trouble again! Suspicious Minds delivers a riveting mystery, but it’s Gabby’s irrepressible charm as she engages a zany cast of characters that keeps readers turning pages. Put this series on your must read list!” “Crime scene cleanup should be a safe enough occupation, right? It comes after the crime is over. Not necessarily! Come enjoy this fun romp through the complications-men, mold, mayhem and murder-in Gabby St. Clair’s rollercoaster life.” “Elvis has left the building, folks, but Gabby St. Claire has not! She’s sweeping in with another mystery to solve, one sure to make you laugh and get you “all shook up.” Suspicious Minds is witty, punchy and fast-paced. Kudos to Christy Barritt for an entertaining and intriguing read!” |

Contest Closed! We have our winner! It was really close between Cindi and Nise,
but Nise at http://thusfarthelordhashelpedme.blogspot.com/ came up with some songs I didn’t even had on the list, but I checked and they were Elvis songs! Congrats!
