This is a sample press release I wrote that landed me an interview on the midday news show and several mentions on the radio. I think the biggest influence in the TV interview was the community events angle. I encourage you to look for that hook when writing your press releases!

LOCAL TEACHER LAUNCHES DEBUT MYSTERY NOVELLA

CITY, STATE, Nov. 28— Local inspirational author and creative writing teacher Gina Conroy of CITY, will debut her mystery  novella “Buried Deception” in the “Cherry Blossom Capers” collection Jan. 1, 2012 as part of Barbour Publishing’s Romancing America line. She is planning a murder mystery party in January for her launch which will include anchor R T of Fox ## news and feature NAME OF Theatre Arts, a local theatre company.

Conroy, a creative writing teacher at NAME OF SCHOOL and former president the local chapter of the American Christian Fiction Writers, has been working toward publication for seven years while raising and homeschooling her four children.  In addition, she is the founder of “Writer…Interrupted,” an online blog and community aimed at helping mothers discover the secret to balancing family life with a writing career.

Set in Washington, D.C., at the historic Mount Vernon Estates, “Buried Deception” is a contemporary story of Samantha Steele, a widow and archaeology intern, whose son wrecks havoc at the estate, threatening her internship. When her son damages a priceless artifact at the mansion, Samantha must rely on Nick Porter, the callous security guard, to get her out of the mess. When they discover the broken relic is a fake, Nick and Samantha realize they need to work together.  If they don’t, the results could be deadly.
