Lightening Strike to Heaven
The other morning I instructed my children (6 yr. and 8 yr.) to finish their copy work while I exercised on the elliptical. They asked if they could color when they were through. Sure, anything to help keep them busy while I got in my work out. Little did I know while I sweated away, they toiled on a “book.â€
Grace (6) came to me first and showed me her story that grandma helped her write out. About a girl in a storm getting hit by lightening, dying and going to heaven. “Lightening Strike to Heaven,†she called it. I admit, at first I was disturbed about the content. Especially when I saw the picture of the little skeleton girl floating to heaven. Then I saw the page when she got to heaven. And well, I’ll just let you decide!
Lightening Strike to Heaven
by Grace Conroy
One stormy day when I was in the storm.
I was struck by lightening. I turned into a skeleton.
I went up to heaven, and I saw people rising to heaven with me.
At night time I was nervous. I didn’t know where I was,
and I didn’t know who was standing next to me.
Then I realized it was Jesus.
And at morning Jesus showed me around.
At night time, me and Jesus looked at the stars.
Then she wrote, ” Did you like the story?”
Read my devotional that was inspired by this story.

I love the floating skeleton (and that face!)! That is definitely a keeper! I think kids this age think about eternal things more than we know. How awesome that she already takes comfort in knowing Jesus is there for her.

Grace,
I loved your story, especially the part about meeting Jesus. How awesome to look at the stars with The Maker of them. Keep up the good work.

Contest 2009. Oh wow! That is so precious. What trust in Jesus. If only we as adults could have that kind of faith. I am amazed when my son says something spiritually profound like that. It fills me with so much joy.

January 6th, 2009 at 10:49 amContest 2009> WOW. That’s a pretty amazing story for a 6-year-old, but knowing her, not surprising that she did it. Tell her it was a great story, and is just a touch of what we’ll experience with Jesus in Heaven.
January 6th, 2009 at 8:42 pmContest 2009> Yes this is the Leah you think it is. I’m glad I found my way here, too. I’m still learning this blog thing. Hope all is well with you and your family. We obviously made it home OK.
January 7th, 2009 at 4:34 pm“Contest 2009!” This post is really what I needed to read. Your devotional also made me happy! I have been hearing and watching all these things about the world supposedly ending on December 21, 2012. It frightens me and I wonder where my faith is?! Thanks for the inspiration that I am needing. Cindi
