Restoration

Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Psalm 51:12 NIV

With the holidays over, I find myself in need of rest. Gifts have found new homes on shelves.  Wreaths have returned to storage.  Holiday dinnerware has been neatly stacked in out-of-the-way cabinets.  Ornaments are yet again boxed, and the tree has been smashed and packed.

On the cusp of a new year, I sit in desperation.  I need renewal.  Restoration. I’m not the only one.  This year brought loss for many.  Loss of jobs. Loss of homes. Loss of marriages.  Add worry for the economy to an already hectic schedule, and you’ll find yourself absolutely weary.

After discussing my fatigue with a friend, I was told to slow down and sit still.  So, today I sat.  I turned on praise music and closed my eyes.  Picturing my Abba Father there in front of me with open arms, I mentally climbed into His lap and felt the warmth of His arms wrap around me.  “I love you.  I need you to fill me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me,” I whispered.  And He did.

I’m not sure what 2009 holds, but I know who holds 2009.

How about you?  Are you in need of restoration?  Take some time to sit with your Abba today and tell Him about it.  You’ll be glad you did!

Abba Father, as we launch into a new year our eyes are on you.  Lord, we are hurting.  So many have been touched by loss.  Lord, you have our attention.  I know you could snap you fingers and change it all.  But Lord perhaps that isn’t Your Will.  Grant us a willing spirit to help us hold on.  Give us a teachable spirit to learn through our trials.  Thank you, God, for not turning your face from us.  Thank you for holding us tight and never letting go.  Please bless each of us in the year to come, and use us for Your glory.  Amen.

From the day I received my first diary in the second grade, I've had a passion expressing myself through writing. Later as a journalist and novelist, I realized words, if used powerfully, have the ability to touch, stir, and reach from the depths of one soul to another. Today as a writing and health coach, I inspire others to live their extraordinary life and encourage them to share their unique stories.
