What I’m Listening to Right Now

as I relax on my porch…The sounds of my children playing in the beautiful morning sunshine. Oh, the joys of lazy homeschool days. Oh, the peace and tranquility.

Chris sits on the bench petting our dog Jedi…he comes over to see what I’m doing and makes me promise to NOT write down what he says. [shaking my head]Twelve year olds! He takes the dog for a walk.

Flies are nipping at me as a type…ugh!

Gracie: “This is Ariel Flyer, Do you Coffee?”

Timmy: “Oh, you Chitty, Chitty Bang…”

Gracie: “This is Chiminy Bang Bang.” She runs over and shows me a matchbox car/plane.

Me: “Where’s Chris?” He’s disappeared from my view. “Chris!” I yell for the entire neighborhood to hear. He appears from around the corner down the block.

Gracie yells. “Chris, come here. Mom needs you.” Then talks off down the street to meet him.

I yell: “Don’t worry, Gracie”

Joey: “Gracie, it’s okay.” Back to playing.

Timmy: “Chris, we need you. We need your help.”

Gracie: “Chris is sticking his tongue at me. He’s doing this…(blows raspberries)”

Chris says something back…

Me: “Hey, flies get out of the way.” I bat at the flies.

Gracie: Playing sounds. “Oh, oh, eee, ow.”

Timmy: “One, two, three…what does this do?”

Gracie singing: “Old MacDonald had a farm…”

Timmy: “You’re so selfish!”

Gracie: “No, you’re so selfish!”

More quiet playing…

Arguing erupts from the garage. Chaos, mayhem… everyone but Timmy is upset with someone or something.

Writer…Interrupted.

I set my computer down and “deal” with the situation. Play time is OVER, kids are cleaning the mess. [Sigh] So much for the tranquility of the moment, all good things must come to an end…back to work!
