Grace Turns 5 this Month

I wrote this a year ago. My how time flies…

Grace turned four last month, but we’re just now getting around to having her Princess Birthday party. It was a great time filled with a dozen little girls in their princess gowns. The boys and a friend dressed up as princes and I swear they had just as much fun as the girls. We danced to “Bella Danerella”, went to search for Prince Timmy in the castle maze hubby built and afterwards we went to the ball and got our own ribbon wands. Grace was in Princess heaven and she did so well. No crying, whinning, or getting upset with all the girls wanting to hold her stuff. She was the perfect princess.

And what a Princess she is! She won’t wear any of the shorts or capris I bought her. Only dresses. And she won’t wear this cute tankini because it shows her belly. She won’t wear any of the short tops she has, the ones that tie in the front because it shows her belly. I hope she feels the same way when she’s 12.

Now that she’s four she’s a little easier to handle. She’s able to sit at the table and color for a while, which she’s never done before. I’m hoping homeschooling next year will go smooth now that she can sit and listen for a while. When it comes to doing familly devotions, she can’t sit still so we let her play on the floor as long as she isn’t distracting.

She has a bunch of one liners I want to record and remember for whenever I get around to scrapbooking her baby album. She’s still very afraid of “Funder & Tomatoes” Translated “Thunder and Tornados.” When ever there is a thunderstorm we can count on her showing up in our room with pillow and blanket in hand. She also started sleeping with the light on a couple of months ago. That’s the same time she had a change for the worse in her bedtime routine. All of my kids have gone to bed fairly easy, but now when we kiss her good night she wants me “forever.” How can I resist lingering just a bit longer?

Grace is definitely the comedian/dare devil of the family. If she’s not scaling the basketball pole or climbing a tree in a dress, she’s telling jokes like “It’s natural.” It’s a long story, maybe you’ve heard the joke, but basically she takes her hand and rubs it on her nose and back toward her hair. Thus the joke is “How did you get that green hair?” Grace does the signature move and says, “It’s natural.” The other day while hubby and I were in a heated conversation she yells in her sweet little voice “Chill, Chill.” Well, I couldn’t help but chill and laugh. Now whenever she tells me to chill, I welcome the little reminder.

Not sure if I mentioned the time Grace got “in trouble” at school for shaking her bootie in the bath room with her panti*s down in front of a boy. Hey, she’s only four. Now if she was 16, that’d be a different story. We had a long talk, and she knows she’s only allowed to shake her bootie at home and with her clothes on. While we’re on the subject of panties, I have tired to get Grace to call them panti*s, but she insists they’re “underwear” just like her brothers’. She also pees instead of tinkles. I guess things could be worse, my boys could have been the last born and then they’d be wearing panties and tinkling!

One last look into my life with four year old Grace.
The other day when the babysitter was over, I called for Chris to come downstairs. Seeing that he didn’t come, Grace yells “Chris, get your butt down here!”

Gulp! Isn’t it like a four year old to teach you something about yourself.
