Leading Line

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

Do you all remember those chief writing pads we had to use in school when we were younger?   Then as you got older there was the wide ruled, and then older yet, you advanced to the college ruled notebook paper.

Personally speaking, if you handed me a blank sheet of paper and asked me to write a paragraph on it, we would need some serious help trying to decipher what sentence followed what.  One sentence would trail upwards and the next would go down.

I need those lines to guide my direction.

In much the same way, I need God to guide my direction in life.  If I were to wander away from God, my path would be crooked.  I wouldn’t know which way to turn and my life would be a mess.  Trust me, I’ve tried going on my own, and it has never worked out for me.  I have caused myself some serious pain.

One time I allowed anger to completely take over my heart when it came to a family member.  Because of that, I was in a very dark place for months, and I couldn’t see a way out.  Or, there’s the time my temper went way too far with my son at the mall in front of a lot of people.  God brought me to my knees with that one, and I grabbed on to the life line he offered, and I haven’t looked back.  I could go on and on telling you of the mistakes I’ve made, but the point here is– that God has saved me from them all.

Are you there now, searching for direction?  If so, turn your focus back to God.  Let Him be the line that you follow through life.  The line you grab onto when life is falling down around you.

He’s there waiting– just like the lines on a page, waiting to be used as your chosen form of guidance through this life.

Dear Lord, thank you for always being there to guide me when I have fallen.  You have picked me up and lead me to the streams of living water.  I may not always understand the situations in my life, but I do understand that you and you alone are my guide.  Lord, open my eyes to see your direction for my life.  In Jesus’ name and all according to your will, Amen.

From the day I received my first diary in the second grade, I've had a passion expressing myself through writing. Later as a journalist and novelist, I realized words, if used powerfully, have the ability to touch, stir, and reach from the depths of one soul to another. Today as a writing and health coach, I inspire others to live their extraordinary life and encourage them to share their unique stories.
