Are You Forgetting Someone?

Does a maiden forget her jewelry, a bride her wedding ornaments? Yet people have forgotten me, days without number. Jeremiah2:32   NIV

Have any of you ever turned your back on God?  Have you had thoughts that maybe you could handle this life on your own?  I have, more times than I care to say, and I always end up on my knees praying, “God forgive me…just one more time.”

I don’t think I intentionally set out to forget him; I just got caught up in the world, while spending time with my heavenly Father grew more distant by the day.  My heart was stuck on unkind words someone had spoken to me.  I was bitter for months and couldn’t let it go.  My mind tried to reason why it was okay to feel this way about another, while God tells us to love one another.  I didn’t want to love her…I wanted revenge.

I stayed in this dark hole far too long.  It affected every aspect of my life to the point I had almost completely forgotten about God – almost.  Then, a whisper of hope.  God began to pull me close once again.  He said, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving kindness.  I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt, O VIRGIN ISREAL.  Again you will take up your tambourines and go out to dance with the joyful.”   Jeremiah 31:3-4  NIV

I found such comfort in those words, and I clung to them for dear life.  My God was telling me to not let Him go.  He was there like he always has and always will be. I knew he would do what was best for me – if I let him.  It’s a constant dying to self; a battle to let the world go and cling to the Father.  I had to forgive as God had forgiven me.

Have you forgotten about God?  Has the world won over part of your soul? If so, don’t lose hope.  He will forgive you. He will restore you and use it for his glory- if you let him!

Lord, thank you for your magnificent love.  I am so grateful that you draw me near when the world has a hold on me.  Help me to let go of this world and cling to you.  I am forever grateful that you never forget about me the way I sometimes forget about you. You are an awesome God!  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

From the day I received my first diary in the second grade, I've had a passion expressing myself through writing. Later as a journalist and novelist, I realized words, if used powerfully, have the ability to touch, stir, and reach from the depths of one soul to another. Today as a writing and health coach, I inspire others to live their extraordinary life and encourage them to share their unique stories.
