Good Friday

Many people tend to skip Good Friday in their Easter observations choosing to focus on the resurrection instead. But our church will be participating in a solemn Good Friday service with graphic images from The Passion of the Christ movie. Why?

For me, it’s to really let the impact of what Jesus did for me sink in. We haven’t been doing much Easter preparation around here, but that doesn’t mean I have to let the day pass me unnoticed.

My 12 and 14 year old will be in attendance. They’re old enough to know, to feel the impact of what Jesus did for them and to realize without Jesus’s death on the cross, there’d be no ressurection.

Without a Good Friday, there’d be no Easter.

Then on Saturday we’re attending an Easter musical put on by a big church in town and Sunday, my 12 year old is getting baptized. When they announced they were doing Easter baptisms again this year, I didn’t pester my kids like I’d done in the pass. I wanted them to come to me. And Joey did.

It’s going to be a double great reason to celebrate this Easter.

Tomorrow Our Prayer (part of the Ruth Stafford Peale Prayer Power Network, a service of Guideposts) is hosting the 39th annual Good Friday Day of Prayer at the Peale Center in Pawling, NY. Even if you can’t attend, you and your readers can still be part of the power of prayer by submitting prayers here

Our Prayer Manager, Reverend Dr. Peola Hicks feels tough times may bring record numbers of prayer requests this year. “The prayers people are asking for most this year,” says Dr. Hicks, “fall into four top categories: 1) job or employment concerns and financial difficulty 2.) health or healing; 3) stress in one’s marriage and broken relationships within the family; 4) recovery from substance abuse by a family member.”
