How to Pivot Towards your Dreams: Using the Obstacle to your Advantage

We all remember the “Pivot” scene where Ross and friends are trying to get a couch around a tight corner and up a flight of stairs. While hilariously annoying, that scene holds a metaphor for life. When you’re in a tight corner and things don’t go as planned, what do you do? Do you get stuck or give up? Maybe you go back to where you started because it’s safe? Neither is advantageous to help you get closer to your dreams.

I had an amazing work retreat planned to get much-needed income-making projects done, even splurged a little by booking an extra night, but after I unpacked and got to work, the wifi didn’t have a signal. We troubleshot for hours, and 4 hours later I finally logged on. Instead of getting ahead in my work, I was now playing catch up. Not what I needed or had planned.

I could have let it derail my entire evening. It did for about 7 minutes, but I remembered that focusing on the negative of what happened would not move me closer to where I wanted and needed to be. I had a choice. I could wallow and get stuck, or I could pivot and find another way to make progress.

I think that’s the secret to moving forward in life. Not letting all the little hiccups and obstacles paralyze us, but using them to create a new path to move forward in the direction we want to go. (Tweet and share graphic.) That mindset shift is just one of the tools I’ve used to pivot my life in all areas. And it’s available to everyone! It just takes some practice and training. Obstacles become the way to growth and new possibilities when you know how to use them to your advantage!

Are you stuck in a negative mindset always upset and spinning your wheels and reacting to what is happening to you? Reach out and let me show you how your obstacles can be the way towards your transformation.
