How to Complete a Task You’ve Been Avoiding

Author Gina Conroy, Coffee, busy, remote work, work from home, online teaching

I completed a long-time goal with a little help from someone I hired to help me edit an easy video project? Why did I hire someone to do something I could have done myself? Because I knew the money would be well spent on the time it would save me to focus on more important things in moving my business forward, like shooting more videos I’ve been avoiding.

Why do we avoid things in life we know are good for us, things that will move our life and business forward? I think there are a few reasons. Fear is the number one reason second to false assumptions that things will be harder or cost more than they should. Maybe you have your own reasons for not moving forward, but I bet they are steeped in fear!

I’m not sure what the root of my fear was about, but I finally conquered it, and you can do it too! Here’s how I completed the task I was avoiding.

✅I committed to doing it and carved out a time.
✅I got out of my head (aka left all the perfectionism behind) and hit record.
✅I warmed up with some “bad” takes until I found my flow.
✅I asked someone else for help and that was the key to completing it!

So what are the takeaways for YOUR life?
1️⃣ Commit to doing “the thing” you keep avoiding.
2️⃣ Get out of your head and take the first step no matter how scary.
3️⃣ Allow yourself to “fail” and not do things perfectly until you warm up and find your stride.
4️⃣ Ask for help! It could be the missing ingredient to your success!

From the day I received my first diary in the second grade, I've had a passion expressing myself through writing. Later as a journalist and novelist, I realized words, if used powerfully, have the ability to touch, stir, and reach from the depths of one soul to another. Today as a writing and health coach, I inspire others to live their extraordinary life and encourage them to share their unique stories.
