Teachers: You got this!
Most of the time it’s a thankless join where you spend so much time after school preparing and saying NO to social events because things have to get done. At times, teaching can feel like holding off the carnivores, especially during those first few weeks. But what you do is making a difference, even if you don’t see it right away. Hang in there! You got this!
I never planned to be a teacher. After homeschooling my kids, I started teaching writing first to teens, then to younger students to make a little money to attend writers conferences. I developed some curriculum and LOVED teaching teens how to write novels.
My heart and prayers go out to all the teachers who have started school or are in the midst of classroom set-up chaos and stress!
After my divorce, I couldn’t get a “real” job, despite my college education, so I worked some low-paying part-time jobs, then took my writing programs into the community. I joined EPIC Oklahoma Charter School and started tutoring. Then Covid shut down my teaching and tutoring, so I took a leap of faith and now I teach online and LOVE it!
