Writing Fearlessly
Lately I’ve been thinking about living life fearlessly. What would my life look like if I lived in the moment, lived each day to its fullest, and took this life without fear. What could I accomplish? Who would I impact? How would God be glorified?
And that gets me thinking about writing fearlessly.
Look, we all read and hear about trends in the marketplace. This genre is hot right now, this one isn’t. That one was hot a year ago but not so much today. People aren’t reading this but are going ga-ga over that.
You know how it goes. The tendency and temptation is for us writers to cater to the marketplace.
And then there’s the fear of rejection. We have a story eating a hole inside us but won’t write it because it may get tossed, someone may not like it, someone may turn up his nose at it. We fear putting that much time and heart into something only to have it discarded like last week’s leftovers.
But what about that story inside us? What about the book God has stirred us to write?
Everyone has a story in their heart, one they believe God has put there and wants them to write (whether fiction or non-fiction). What if we ignored marketplace trends? What if we set the fear of rejection aside, the fear of raised eyebrows and curled lips, the fear of stepping out of bounds, and just wrote what’s burning to be written? What if each of us stood up for the story within us, unlocked the cage, and let it out?
What would happen?
Here’s my new year’s resolution. I want to write fearlessly. I want to unleash the creativity within me and write a story that has the power of God behind it. I want to cross the line, even if others think I’m crazy.
And then see what happens.
Will you join me?
