Progress Over Perfection: Week 6 Drink Your Water

Did you know that thirst is an indicator that your body is almost dehydrated? Most people wait until they’re thirsty to take a sip, but that’s too late. Water is not only necessary for fat loss, but it flushes out toxins in your body, wakes up your digestive system, and can help prevent premature wrinkles.

Try to get at least 64 ounces (or more) of water in during the day. Here are some tips to help drink the water your body needs to function at its best.

  1. Drink 8 a glass of water first thing in the morning. If you keep water on your bed stand and drink it first thing in the morning, not only are you helping to hydrate before your coffee or tea, but it will wake up your digestive track, promote good bowel movements and give you energy. You can also sip through the night if you get thirsty.

2. When you’re get hungry or feel like snacking, reach for a glass of water first. Not only will it fill you up so you eat less, but it give you energy during that midday slump.

3. Drink before your meals. Drinking water at least a half hour before a meal will not only help fill you up, but it will aid digestion.

4. Sip throughout the day. Sipping throughout the day may work better for you then guzzling a full glass every few hours. To make it easier to sip all your water, try using a glass with a straw. Straws make it easier than a twist cap and more convenient.

There’s no doubt drinking enough water is essential for optimal performance of your body and mind. It’s getting it all in that’s the challenge. So before you think about grabbing that coffee or energy drink, remember to pave yourself and have a plan to get all your water in.
